The first kidney transplant performed in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh took place in 1961. Since then and since moving to the new site of the Royal Infirmary at Little France in 2003, many hundreds of patients have experienced the benefits of kidney transplantation.
From April 2018 to March 2019, we assessed 236 patients for kidney transplant and performed 135 kidney-only transplants. During the same period, the overall number of kidney transplants including living donor, deceased donor, simultaneous pancreas-kidney, and simultaneous islet-kidney was 152.
